CAROL-ANN MICHAELSON

Methods & Materials

I paint with oil and cold wax.  I paint mainly on birch panels but some of my smaller paintings are also done on paper.

I work intuitively, building up layers of colour and texture. adding, scraping back and adding again, responding to each rendition. Trusting  my inner self is key to my way of painting..

Each work has up to dozens of layers of paint.

In the early stages I  work with oil sticks, pencils, wax crayons, charcoal and many other kinds of drawing materials.  I never use a brush.  I work with squeegees, rollers and palette knives.

My goal is to create nuanced paintings that are rich and full of energy, texture, luminosity, and atmosphere.
